OPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL JUNIOR GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

The Optimist International Junior Golf Championships (OIJGC) is one of the largest and most prestigious events for junior golfers ages 10-18. Each year over 5,000 young people from the United States and Canada compete in qualifying tournaments; there are over 700 players from 25 countries that participate in the championship event. Youth in your community have the opportunity to play in this prestigious event and meet other young athletes from all over the world. The Optimist International Junior Golf Championships provides cultural learning opportunities, competition, a week of golf, and best of all, lots of fun! Some former participants in Optimist-sponsored events include Bubba Dickerson, Tiger Woods, Davis Love III, Michelle McGann, Ernie Els, Justin Leonard, Nancy Lopez, Phil Mickelson, Nick Price, Corey Pavin, Craig Stadler and Eric Compton. The 2010 BILL VAUGHN OPTIMIST JUNIOR GOLF CLASSIC

All U.S. players ages 10-18 must qualify through a District Qualifying Tournament. Optimist volunteers coordinate local and District Qualifying Tournaments across the United States. The Capital-Virginia Optimist District Tournament Director can give you helpful information about the qualifying tournament.

Boys and girls in the following age groups may enter the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships:

16-18, 14-15, 12-13, and 10-11. The youth’s age group is determined by the age he/she will be on the last day of the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships.  Each youth golfer must be sponsored by an Optimist Club. If you need assistance in finding a local Optimist Club point of contact, please ask the Tournament Director or one of the Regional Chairs for help. (Optimist Club sponsorship does not mean that the sponsoring club pays the fees of the youth golfer.)
