Student
of the Month
|
Sept - June |
The Optimist Club of Fredericksburg works directly with
participating area high schools to recognize seniors for scholastic achievement.
Each participating high school selects a Student of the Month using their own
criteria based upon basic guidelines provided by the Optimist Club. The high
schools provide the names, picture and biography of the selected students each
month of the school year to the Optimist Club. The Optimist Club works with the
Free-Lance Star to publish this information in that newspaper, awards savings
bonds to selected students, and presents the students with a plaque at one of
two recognition dinners held each year. Currently 10 high schools participate
and 11 are planned to be part of the program in the 2006 -2007 school year.
The Optimist Club of Fredericksburg has recognized more than 750
students from the participating Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, and
Stafford high schools under the Student of the Month Program and awarded
college scholarships to date exceed $50,000.
